Sunflowers
Year 3 have been observing the vibrant work of Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh. We looked at the way he applied the paint, the colours he used and his subject matter.
Vincent Van Gogh loved painting his home and life in his local village.
He loved painting so much that he painted over 800 artworks in his life but he only ever sold one!
Now he is one of the most famous artists in the world and has his very own museum in Amsterdam.
Vincent painted his sunflowers as gift for a friend who was coming to visit and to experiment with colours.
He also painted with thick, fat brushstrokes so you can see the paint on the canvas.
How to paint Sunflowers in the style of Vincent Van Gogh.
1. Sketch flowers with brown pastels
2. Paint background
3. Paint vase
4. Paint stems and leaves
5. Paint flowers using different yellows.
6. Sign name on vase.
